Verification = Choose this option if you have been selected for verification by the federal government, as notified on your FAFSA Submission Summary and notified via email from the Department of Education and Wittenberg University. On rare occasions Wittenberg may select you for verification, please use this link to upload the form and supporting documentation. Verification is an auditing process that ensures your FAFSA information and subsequent award is as accurate as possible.
Special Circumstances = Undergraduate students and families provide income and asset information that is two years old on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). During that two-year period, students and their families may experience changes in their financial or personal circumstances that are not represented on the FAFSA. The Special Circumstances Appeal process is an opportunity for students and families to report these issues to the Office of Financial Aid and adjustments may result in a change in financial aid eligibility and awards.
Unusual Circumstances/Dependency Override = For financial aid (FAFSA) purposes, a student is considered a dependent of their parents and must submit their parents’ financial information on the FAFSA, unless the student is:
-
24-years-old
-
married
-
serving on active duty in the US Armed Forces
-
a veteran
-
a parent with dependents
-
an emancipated minor
-
homeless (as declared by a third party)
-
assigned a legal guardian before the age of 18
If a dependent student does not provide parental data on their FAFSA (effective for the 2024-2025 academic year and beyond), the Office of Financial Aid is obligated to contact the student and request additional information, prior to completing an award. Students who may qualify for a dependency override, as outlined above, are required to complete, sign, and submit the Dependency Override Form to our office, including any/all supporting documentation.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Documentation = Select this option if you have been required to complete the SAP Appeal Process as a current Wittenberg student. Federal regulations require students to be making satisfactory progress toward the completion of a degree or certificate in order to receive Title IV funds. “Satisfactory Academic Progress” (SAP) is a measurement of a student’s successful academic performance and the Standards of Academic Progress apply to all recipients of federal (Title IV) funds, as well as Wittenberg institutional aid.
Other Requested Documentation = Select this option if the Office of Financial Aid has requested specific documentation for you to upload.
